In recent updates, the agriculture field has seen a lot of hindrance in the supply of fruits destined from Russia to different locations world wide. This invasion has caused a reduction in the supply of exports by Russia, effecting a major part of its tourism. The great impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine has affected the fruit supply of Russia to South Africa. causing a disruption in the market selling price of fruits in South Africa.
As part of the impact of disruption in countries, it has affected the standard-calculated time of transit of material from Russia to the U.K. from 24 days to 90 days. The result of the disruption has affected the supply of lemons, grapefruit, and soft citrus.
Some of the importers and exportes from Russia have made an assumption that the disruption of war will cause some fluctuation in the dependent commodities market. Such changes in the recent workings of the market will result in a diversion of goods supply from one market to another. What could be more affected by the decerption is: affecting bulk suppliers’ purchases (hotels and food processing units); wastage of goods caused by delays in supplies; disruption of money flow of order-placing agencies; making imported fruits more expensive.
The local citrus market in South Africa has sustained 120, 000+ jobs and generated more than $25 billion in export revenue for the country. Previous citrus transactions between the South African and Russian markets have revealed that the Russian market accounts for approximately 7% to 120% of the total South African market.
Which measures have been taken care of by some of the associations, said a representative of the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGA), which is working to manage the supply change of fruits. This measure taken by CGA has also called on the government to make an alteration to the working pattern of food supply management to redouble its negation with trading partners.
