A static government is about to come for work done during this financial year. The Central Organization for Oil Industry & Trade (COOIT) has made an estimate of an increase in mustard planting by 29%, as seen from the previous year, which will bring the estimate of 87.44 lakh tonnes of production to 109.5 lakh tonnes this year. The average yield has been seen at 1,270 kg per hectare.
While addressing the estimation of mustard seeds, COOIT Chairman stated that “We have finalised estimates for mustard seed production in this Rabi season after extensive field visits by different teams all over India. The mustard production is set to rise to a record of 109.5 lakh tonnes. “
This estimation may indicate an impact on the country’s mustard imports. This is a good gesture for the mustard industry in India as the disruption between Russia and Ukraine has had a global trade impact on the edible oil business. A major part of the edible oil exported internationally is produced by Russia and Ukraine. whose supplies are disrupted as a result of conflict between the parties.
We might see a sudden favorable point towards benefits for farmers involved in the mustard seed business in India. ” Farmers have harvested more for mustard seed farming as per earlier forecasted demand estimated by statics.
Sowing of mustard seeds is done in the Rabi season, in which sowing starts in October and harvesting begins in March.
State | Previous year (In tonnes) | Estimated this year (In lakh tonnes) |
Rajasthan | 35 | 49.50 |
Uttar Pradesh | 13.5 | 15 |
Punjab and Haryana | 11.50 | 9.5 |
Madhya Pradesh | 8.5 | 12.5 |
The Theae estimated data shows a favourable condition for mustard harvesters in India. India imports 50–60% of its edible oil from other countries. Increased output capacity will boost domestic supply within the country, benefiting mustard seed sellers to oil processing units.
